If a poor man comes begging from you, give him what he needs according to your means. Have great love and great compassion, considering him as if he were part of your own body. This is true charity (dana), true sharing, true giving.
Commentary:
“I” and “you”, “self” and “other” are not two, but one body. We all came into the world empty-handed, and will leave empty-handed. That is our life.
