Don’t Know vs Do It

‘Only Don’t Know’ and ‘Just Do It’—the words are different, but they point to the exact same thing.

The Sixth Patriarch compared this to a lamp. When a candle is lit, both the flame and its light appear together. They are completely inseparable, yet we distinguish them by calling one the ‘flame’ and the other the ‘light.’ If the flame is the substance, then the light is its function.

It is exactly the same with your mind. If your ‘Only Don’t Know’ is very clear, and you just use your eyes, the truth appears – you can see clearly. It is really that simple. When your mind becomes empty and your ‘Don’t Know’ (substance) is perfectly clear, you can ‘Just Do It’ (function). What you see, hear, smell, or think becomes the truth. But again, remember that substance and function are completely inseparable although they have different names.
